A message from the director:
The Fun's over. Time for Politics.
So, you've played the games and poked fun at Christianity, and you've seen the video and know where I'm coming from. But this isn't just another Micheal Moore style rant at the Christian right. Let me take you back to when it all started, on September 11th 2001. I was in the student residence center at the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, with a bunch of students, waiting for Bush to come on TV and speak officially for the first time after the attacks.
Everyone was obviously in a state of shock and we all listened quietly to what he had to say. I kept my mouth shut when he claimed that "America was targeted for attack because we're the brightest beacon for freedom and opportunity in the world", but when he started quoting the Bible I knew it was all over. I knew it was all over because no one in the room had noticed. It was a reasonably diverse group of students, representing Hispanic and Native American cultures as well as plain old white America, but the separation of church and state was clearly not an issue.
I know this part of the Constitution has been ritually ignored since the beginning, but at a time when conflicts in religious belief were so sensitive, surely he could've left his bible at home. The Crusade had begun, and it's not just me calling it a crusade either, it's Bush. "This is a new kind of evil and the American people are beginning to understand. This crusade, this war on terrorism, is going to take a while. And American people must be patient." Whatever you want to call them, The Christian Right, Fundamentalists, Republicans, they are slowly and quietly taking over the world. The people with all the money are changing laws based on their opinions of morality, on the assumption that it is natural and has always been that way. They enforce this hegemony through Clear Channel, a giant media company who own billboards, venues and radio and TV stations. It's no big deal if a few Christians go on TV and start preaching, but Clear Channel are constantly avoiding anti-monopoly laws and are set to own it all. God Bless America, regardless of whether you believe in him or not.
